About Our Webstream

Overview

The User Groups at the Roseville Skating Center will be webstreaming live events from both the Outdoor Oval and the Indoor Ice Arena. Each User Group will be producing their own events using volunteers from within their own Group. Some of these live events will not feature narration, rather, they will be limited to background audio only.

Some of these events might also be broadcast on NineNorth's Xfinity Cable TV channel/s and their webstream.

Background

The Friends of the OVAL Foundation and volunteers from the User Groups worked together to setup the Roseville Skating Center for LIVE Webstreaming.

The Video System is based on standard definition components due to:

  • An existing large standard definition scoreboard

  • Existing standard definition scoreboard control systems

  • Extremely long cable lengths (some approach 1,000 ft)

  • Extreme outdoor weather conditions (cold, snow, rain, wind, etc.)

  • Inexpensive components (most everyone has gone to high definition).  Many items purchased on Ebay

  • Donations from various TV stations, schools, User Groups, etc.

  • Operation by non-technical volunteers from the User Groups

Future Upgrades

In 2025/2026, we hope to convert to high-definition video at 720p using SDI signals. We have already produced several events in that format.

Technical Details

Indoor Arena has 14 video feeds & 2 audio feeds.

  • Outdoor Oval has 21 video feeds & 2 audio feeds.

  • Banquet Rooms have both video & audio feeds.

  • Total of 44 video feeds and 8 audio feeds throughout the facility.

  • Total of 17 video cameras & 9 tripods (includes 3 cameras mounted in the indoor arena ceiling for goal cams & scoreboard cam).

  • Oval Scoreboard (19' W x 10' H) is fully integrated into the overall system.

  • Instant replay (2 ch), DVD, text overlays, multiple hard drives, auto-switcher, auxillary inputs / outputs.

Video & Web Production Volunteers Needed

User Groups wishing to take advantage of this capability will need to supply volunteers who are willing to be trained on the video equipment. Contact your User Group's governing body or Skating Center administration for more information.
